Hey guys, new to the Team Titleist! I'm looking to get some new irons. A friend of mine just got the 712 MB's and I got to swing a 7 iron... they felt amazing. I'm currently using TM MC (4-6) and MB (7-PW) with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts. Calculating from last August, I'm currently a 3.1 HDCP. But the weakest part of my game is iron play (especially mid irons). I know the problem is not all in the irons, but I feel a change might help. I'm not against an iron with more forgiveness, but I don't want it to be extremely too big, and/or not workable. I love the look of the AP2 and the MB's. I'm torn... I love the look and feel of the blade, but hate the massive distance lost on a mis-hit. Should I sacrifice a little look for a little more forgiveness? What are your thoughts?

Hi Chris, I got the AP2's (710) 2 years ago and love them. My previous irons were 735-CM (the combo set), DCI's (from way back, used them for a decade) and beautiful MacGregor Muirfield muscle-back before that. I attribute the AP2's in large part for helping me drop from a 4-5 range to a 2-3 range, with a low last summer of 1.2! I'm 49 and have to face the fact that I'm not a kid any more. I have Project-X 5.0 (regular) shafts. The AP2's provide enough forgiveness but still give me that ultra-pure feel on a good hit. The MB's certainly are beautiful, and sure, they're what Rory and many of those guys play, but who'm I kidding. My irons are for me and the AP2's are perfect! Good Luck! Pete

    Hey Chris,

First off, welcome to TT. I would recommend the CB's all throughout your set for the sake of forgiveness or even a combo set 4-6 in the AP2's and 7-Pw or 9 in CB's depending on what wedges you'll use.

The AP2's are just as workable and a little more forgiving but the CB's offer the thinner topline and the satin finish. They're both beautiful clubs and the combo set would be the best idea.

to be honest, I want to steer clear of a combo set again... and, I don't really like the look of the CB's. just doesn't fit my eye for some reason

Chris, I played the 690.mb through college and switched to the AP2 710 a couple of years ago. What a move! My handicap went from around 3-4 to 0 and I won my club championship. The AP2 is the best of both worlds, giving you that grear forged feel with the forgiveness you won't find in the blade. I can't recommend it enough. Good luck.

I'm of the opinion that fitting the eye is just as important as fitting for the swing.  One of my main reasons for this is; you can change your swing (even a good series of golf lessons change parts of people's swing), but you can't change your eye!

Every set of clubs I liked looking down at, I hit well.  If I looked down and thought "this club looks like crap", I usually hit it like crap.

I've heard others say the exact opposite.  They don't care what a club looks like as long as they can hit it well.

To each their own..... But, I say find a set you think are uber sexy, then get fitted for them.  I believe you'll drop your scores if you do.

I currently play the AP2 irons. I think they are fantastic good distance and workability.
