I have an extremely simple question that I hope someone could answer. On a new Vokey WedgeWorks 60 Degree SM4 TVD wedge, due to the heel and toe relief, what position of the club produces the highest bounce and what position of the club produces the lowest bounce? For example, if I am in a soft bunker and desire the most bounce the club has to offer, is the face of the club wide open, or is the face of the club set up square? Regards, Lenny B

    Hi Lenny,

The effective bounce on a Vokey 60* TVD is 8*.  This is how the club will play around the greens.  The measured bounce is actually higher, but due to the sole relief, effective bounce is 8.  If you play in soft conditions or in bunkers with soft sand, you may need more bounce, depending on your technique.  Opening the face of the club exposes the bounce and will allow you to play bunker shots without digging.

    Hope that helps.

    Best regards,

Dave, Thank you for the response. However, just to test my understanding, if I open the face, I am exposing the bounce, and I will be playing the club at 8* of effective bounce. If I play it square, I have less than 8* of bounce. Correct? What is the effective bounce when the club is square? Lenny

The "effective" bounce is the average of the leading and trailing edges, to the best of my knowledge. The leading edge of a TVD 60 may be about 15* and the trailing edge may be 3-4*. A CG15 DSG has an effective bounce of 6* but is not exactly easy to hit off a tight lie. If the clubface was square and the clubhead was level you would have 8* of effective bounce; you would probably have to deloft it a little on a tight lie.

Lenny, I asked Voke this question and he said, "if you open the face of the club, you are adding loft and bounce. However it won't be as much with a TVD as with a full sole due to the grind. In the square position, the TVD60 will play with 8* of effective bounce. Effective bounce is a combination of measured bounce, sole grind, sole width and camber. On all of our wedges we use effective bounce because that is a better measure of how the club will play. Hope that helps. -Voke"

Lenny, opening the face always increases the bounce, same thing for bending the club for more loft, it increases the bounce.

Lets suppose you have a 60.10(easier math) the face is 30* up from the horizontal(which is 60* down from the vertical), the bounce is 10* down from the horizontal, so there is a 40* difference between the face and the bounce.

So now open the face to where it is facing straight up, that is 0* loft, the bounce is now at 40* below the horizontal.

However the sole of the club will be entering the sand on a diagonal path, which will reduce the effectiveness of the 40* of bounce.
