Recently purchased a set of the 712 AP1 irons and they are great! I appreciate everyone's help at Team Titleist on answering my shaft questions and especially to my fitter and teaching professional - everything is perfect.

I do have one suggestion for future releases of AP1's and AP2's - satin finish. I am very particular about my clubs and take great care of them. A satin finish is so much more visually appealing from the outset and over time will look much better than the chrome. An additional suggestion would be to make the face consistent in terms of appearance for the AP1, rather than 2-tone. All satin is most desirable and hope you will incorporate than into the next version. Thanks for listening and a great set of 712's.

We had many requests for a satin finish on the AP1 and AP2 irons, but when the protos came out for visual, the players preferred the look of the chrome. You never know, they may revisit that in the future, but for now, the chrome look was the preferred look.

Cathi, I have to agree with the post about the finish. I just got my custom AP1s and if I had to rate them on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being best I would give them all 10s in feel, accuracy, forgiviness, and looks, but only a 5 or below in durability. The chrome finish is not durable and scrathes very easy. I have only had the clubs a week, have used them 2 rounds and have multiple scratches already on the chrome (I am a very consistant ball striker with a 6 handicap). Aside from the finish you definitly have a winner they may be the best clubs I have ever hit. Jeff

I have sent your post to our iron team so that they can see what can be done. The steel that is used in the AP1's is a softer steel which is what contributes to its great feel, but the compromise is that it will show nicks. We could use a harder steel which won't nick, but you also won't get the feel and feedback. Our design team is really great so we will see what they can come up with for future irons.

The club is fantastic - everything is great. I would only suggest 2 potential improvements: 1. eliminate 2-tone face (or soften appearance of 2-tone face; and 2. all satin finish.

Cathi, Thanks for the feedback, I would be very interested to hear what the iron team has to say. Jeff

They also wanted you to know that the AP1's are a soft steel that is polished and not chrome plated.

On AP1, why not satin finish vs the polished finish? Is it cost or something else? Tour players obviously preferred the satin finish on the MB and CB or the finish wouldn't have changed from 710 models. Last comment on this item and in my opinion, the satin finish is more appealing and will show less wear on the non-clubs lace (less nicks and scratches over time). Again, fabulous club and love it!

Players liked the idea of satin for the AP1's and AP2's, but when Tour players and amateurs saw the prototype satin finish, they preferred the polished look. The R & D department is exploring all options and they do consumer and Tour visual surveys before making a final decision on products. They will be researching all finishes for each new product so they may look into it again in the future.

Cathi, Thanks so much for all the info, I like the fact that they are polished not plated. I agree from a standpoint of looks the chrome is just great looking, if they could figure out a way to have the durability of the satin finish and the looks of the chrome finish they would be the perfect irons. Either way the clubs are fantastic. Happy Holidays to you and everyone at Titleist. Jeff

Great insight. Interested in upgrading from my 704CB to new 712 AP2's. I fully agree with your opinion. The chrome is nice but looks like it will scratch much to easily. What about the effects of sun glare in the summer time? I seriously hope Team Titleist will release a limited edition of the club in the satin finish. It's great the pros like em but consider the most important market, the millions of amateur golfers who sustain the business! Plus if I'm spending $1000 of my hard earned money, the clubs finish should be durable as you stated. I'm a huge fan of Titleist irons as well. Regards- Eric D.
