Hey Team Titleist, I just wanted to ask if you guys could help me decide if I should go with the SPIN MILLED or C-C Vokey wedges! Me being a new golfer and just starting about 7months ago, umm I have a 12 handicap...and I have a really old and CG10 wedge 56, and a 52 RAC TM wedge...umm im 15, and I know I don't sound too good, but I'm trying to pursue a goal, and the wedges I need excruciatingly, yeah so I want to pick CC because if I go to college I don't have to upgrade, but I don't need that!!! Man I'm super confused can someone just help me PLEASEEEE!

Buy the Spin Milled c-c if you are going to buy a new wedge (may as well have the legal grooves in the event you play competitive golf - if you are a 12 handicap after 7 months of playing, you might as well try out for the HS golf team). I have 54-11 (bent to 55-12) and 62-07 (that's me though).

Hi Dana - Welcome to golf! Sounds like you have been practicing a lot to get down to a 12 in 7 months. That's impressive :) You have two choices - the original Spin milled wedge (aka "big groove" wedge-SM2) has the most amount of spin and they are legal for play until 2024 unless you are playing in a USGA event or a tournament that is requiring conforming clubs. If there is a downside to these wedges it's that we can no longer custom build them per the USGA. The new SM4 wedges will be another good choice - Bob has spent the last couple of years working on refining wedges to get back some of the spin and to improve the technology. The new SM4's will gain about 1200 rpms back (over the CC wedges-SM3)by making the radius of the edge closer to the USGA limit and adding several grooves. They will be so close to the limits that the USGA set that we will be inspecting each groove of every wedge for compliance. In addition to his spin milled technology which helps the ball bounce more consistently off the face and adds a texture to control trajectory on partial shots, he has developed a heat treatment across the grooves that will help the grooves be more durable and retain its spin. If you are planning to use these new wedges when you get to college and play on the team, I'd go with the new SM4 wedges because they are also CC or conforming wedges. btw - SM stands for Spin milled and the 2,3,and 4 indicate what edition. If you have any other questions, give us a call and we'd be happy to help! 1-888-TITLEIST.

Thanks Cathi, I do spend loads of time at my local golf course here in Kahuku Hawaii. I try to get in as much practice time as I can. That's how I got there, but recently my handicap moved down two points down to a ten. My coach recommended that I do get the new conforming wedges, so I have that set. I dont really have too much of a preference towards wedges other than that they should be Titleist:) , they shouldn't be broken, and they should be hittable...I don't really care for the grinds, maybe because I don't know they are used for, I think if I get any wedge I can hit it pretty well. But I'm trying to save up enough money ( which is really hard being that I can't get a job till I'm 16, in Feb. ) so that I can purchase those BEAUTIFUL SM4 C-C Vokey Wedges ( tell Bob Vokey that please haha) with some nice Blue VDR grips...yeah that would be nice!:)... I know that I'm pretty skilled with the wedges I have now but I just need some new wedges I'm just waiting till I can afford it which is hopefully by Christmas, which is just around the corner. The ones I have are hand-me-downs...that have dents and dings and everything that you would think a consistently used wedge would be. Thanks for your reply, please reply back haha....I like talking about Titleist!:))) woo

It would be nice if you could find a Spin Milled c-c used (more likely to find the old SM). Maybe buy them slowly. Most important is the sand wedge, IMHO. Also another cost saver is to check the trade-in value of clubs at www.pga.com. I got a couple Vokeys free this way and one at a reduced price. I also got a Cleveland CG15 DSG 64 that way a couple years ago. Never played Kahuku. Played Ted Makalena, Pali, Fort Shafter, Navy-Marine and Hickam (both the par 3 and the big course).

That would be very nice if I could do that, yeah the sand wedge is basically the most important of the wedge set. Yeah I've played most of those courses too. My main course isn't Kahuku, it's named Turtle Bay Golf Course, my dad works there so I get perks and such. But do you live in hawaii?

I was stationed in Pearl for a total of 13 1/2 years (first ship was 4 1/2 years; got out of the Navy, came back in, and did 3 ships and one shore duty from 84-93). Turtle Bay Hilton, as I recall correctly, even had $150 greens fees back in 1993 (you are pretty lucky).

Oh that's cool, I heard those jobs there have REALLY good pay, a matter of fact that was one of the places my teacher recommended I get a job, when I reach the age that is, to be able to purchase some golf clubs. And yes the Turtle Bay golf course is suppppperrr expensive, but my golf coach, used to work there so he has hook ups, and also my dad, brother, and sister work there so...yeah I'm very fortunate!
