  1. Hi, I recently purchased the 910 D2 driver 10.5 degree loft with an Illima stiff shaft. I like the driver but I'm running into a problem. My drives will peak and then suddenly drop like a rock which I assume is due to too much spin. Is there a way to adjust the setting (currently set to standard lie and loft)or is this more of an issue with my swing? I recently saw our club pro on the driving range and he commented on my driver saying he heard of this problem even before I brought it up to him so, it must be fairly common. Suggestions? Thanks, John

Since it is a medium low spin driver, I would guess it is a swing issue, which my guess would be you have a good swing up on the ball......and the D2 is a medium high launch, which would send the ball high + 10.5 loft will add some height by the added spin, it will spin more than a D2 9.5*.

Since it is made to produce a medium high launch, then it would probably be best to sweep or slightly swing up on the ball.

    john,

it does sound like your driver setup might be wrong.  i actually tried the ilima shaft when i was getting fitted and the same thing was happening to me - my fitter said the shaft was stalling.  the ball was dropping out of the sky like a lead balloon.  i think the problem with your setup is you've got a 10.5* mid/high launch head and a low kick/high launch shaft.

you could try to set the head to d-1 setting, but i don't think decreasing the loft by .75* will do that much to lower your launch and spin.  if i were you, i'd pay to get a fitting - if you're happy with the d2 head, then it might be as simple as changing to the rip60 or ahina shaft stock shaft.  those are lower launch, lower spin shafts.  good luck and let us know how things go!

    Hi John,

The comments replied to your postings are very much valid.  Since you already own the D2 it would probably be wise to first try the suggestions offered.  However, I would like to provide my experience having faced the same issue as you do, albeit I was using the 909D2 9.5* Diamana Blueboard stiff flec.

I was hitting a high ball that would take off, get a good ways out then drop with little roll.  I tried the D3, same shaft-and loft with the aid off my teaching pro (who is also a Titleist guy) settled on the D3.  We found that the D3 gave me a lower and more boring trajectory with less spin and more roll.  An added benefit I discovered of the D3 over the D2 it was easier to hit into the wind.

If you happen to come across a D3, try it, you might very well be happily surprised.  I have since then switched to the 910D3 9.5* with Diamana Kai'li stiff shaft and feel the same holds true.

Hope this helps in some way,

    Greg

  5. Thanks to everyone for their comments and suggestions. I'll try some of the suggestions, which seem pretty consistent, and see if I can change it up. Naturally, I'm trying to avoid purchasing a D3 head having just purchased the D2 but it might come to that...anything for our golf game, right? Thanks, John
