As a beginner, its not uncommon to loose a large volume of golf balls on the course so I can see where you might not be ready to invest in the premium line of ProV1, ProV1x, or AVX just yet. As you found out, the premium ball performance is significantly greater than value balls and that performance will be even greater as your golf improves over time. Avoid the trap of buying cheaper refurbished balls as some have been known to be other brands painted over to look like ProV1. There are a lot of people that like Velocity for its distance off the tee but they are pretty firm feeling and do not spin well around the greens. Tour Speed is no longer produced but you can find some still on shelves. They combined it with the new Tour Soft. Good all around performance and mid-tier price. The ball is the one variable that does not have to be changed during a round of golf. It's alway a good idea to pick a style and stick with it as much as possible to maximize your consistency. You will find it most true in lag putting where feel is most required. Good luck, and have fun on this new journey.

Agree with Dale. To note, Titleist released the 2024 editions of their non-Pro-V lines of balls. There are new versions of Tour Soft, AVX, and Velocity. Tour Speed is now discontinued. You can read up on the intended user for each ball on this website. There is also a ball fitting app on the site.

It does make a difference to use the same ball in a round of golf. If you are consistently losing 3 balls or more per round as a beginning golfer, the Pro-V balls will get expensive in a hurry. The Tour Soft and Velocity are intended for different audiences. The Tour Speed is similar to the Tour Soft for many golfers. As a beginner, you have the option to buy up some Tour Speed balls if the price is substantially less than the Tour Soft. Once they are gone, they will be gone for good. If you elect to go the Velocity route, then stocking some prior generation at this time makes sense.

These balls are not replacements for Pro-V. Cost and feel are factors as well but with reduced performance. As a geriatric I play with other geriatrics that like the soft feel and pricing of your current gamer. I don’t lose many and for me the Pro-V1x gives me better performance than the softer balls. The comparative ball to your gamer is the TruFeel by Titleist.

I agree with Dale 100%. Whatever you do, don’t buy refurbished balls. When you find out which Titleist product is right for where you are with your game, budget, etc., try to use the same ball all the time so you can have consistency in that piece of equipment. Once you get to a place where you feel comfortable, the tour level balls will give you better performance in many ways but just get consistency where you can for now.
