I’m a Pro V1x guy from way back. The Titleist Tour Speed is a very close second. I get comparable ball flight and distance off the tee and with my irons. The difference-to my game-is around the green. Titleist Tour Speed is a very good golf ball. I’m looking forward to the next generation. (Hopefully this year?)

How do you tell if a golf ball esp titleist is still good. My father always said to stretch your arm out drop the golf ball and if it bounces back up close to your chest then it was good. Gotta love your Dad. Is there an actual way to tell?

Your dad grew up playing wound balata balls like me. They significantly lost performance as both the cover material and the rubber-band wound layer would break down. The modern golf ball in controlled conditions will last for years with minimal degradation. That does not mean they can be better than new balls as materials and dimple patterns change and give new versions even more benefits. Those "prior generation" balls in your closet are pretty much as good as they were when you got them so finish up giving them a workout and then grab some new models and enjoy. If you can't wait, consider donating the old ones to your local High School's golf program. Cheers!
