The golf course where you were at would have been able to quote you a price on both. We don't have MSRPs for shaft upcharges and each account has their own pricing.  If you purchase the shaft with the club, it will be more economical rather than purchasing the shaft alone later.  I would check with your local pro at your course as well as one of the bigger stores so that you can compare prices.
