Hey everyone! Just curious if anyone knows if Titleist fitters look at MOI matching for irons (or any club) over using swing weight. I have a fitting coming up for the new irons and just wanted some insight if that gets taken into consideration. At the end of the day, we ideally want to have the lightest club we can control that can sustain our swing.

Typing this I realize I might be going down one of the many rabbit wholes in golf but any thoughts or insight would be appreciated!

In mine, and most fitters’ experience, MOI is not a reliable metric for improving a player’s results. Try the recommended options and select the best one for your swing that produces results. If the ball is going generally where you expect it to, I couldn’t care less what the specs are.

    Say hello to Bugs…

As part of your fitting, you can expect or ask for multiple shafts during the fitting. The standard static swing weight is D2-D3. During the fitting, you can try various weight shafts. For example, 90-120 g metal shafts. Or 60-95 g graphite. Different flexes of the same shaft will vary in weight, as well. More importantly is settling on a shaft whose kick points, etc, match your swing.

Technical measures don’t outweigh feel. If it takes the full hour, that’s why they allocate that much time.

    Thanks Eddie + Don,

Both great points here! Feel is definitely an important factor to this. My hope is with the fitters expertise I'll end up picking up a iron/shaft combo that just feels perfect.
  5. Went from t300 to t150 in a fitting and wow the difference now being able to hold the green easily with my lower ball flight.

No, Titleist will only match clubs by swing weight - their heads are manufactured by specific head weights with the difference between clubs most likely between 6 - 7 grams between clubs - this works for swing weight purposes but never fits for MOI matching - MOI matching results in a much different head weight variance but results in more precise similar feel between clubs. MOI matched clubs result
in an incremental increase in swing weight of .5 swing weight points between clubs. Matching by swing weight is simply more efficient for club manufacturing and meets the need for most golfers.

Just as a theoretical game, I wonder if Titleist would build a set of varying swing weights. Each club is built separately and the heads are not a complete set of matched weights. Each club is built to the swing weight specified and weights are added to achieve that. So, technically, they could build it to the swing weights for the MOI requirement. Might be possible ordering each club separately.

Surely, they would do that for JT or Jordan.

    Hey Don
    It won't work for you.
    They're both right handed
