Today I was testing the 910 D3 10.5 on trackman and would like to pose a question to the TT community.

I tried out several different shafts in Stiff flex and Regular flex.

I average 140 mph ball speed.

I'm leaning toward Regular flex and these 2 shafts.

    Fujikura F1 (Reg): Launch=13.1 Spin=2479 Landing Angle 30.5 (felt a bit stiff)

Diamana Kaili Reg): Launch=13.4 Spin=2815  Landing Angle 36.2 (felt a little soft)

Same carry but overall distance with F1= +7 yards

    Here is the question:

Your thoughts on tipping the Diamana Kaili 1/2 inch. Will this tighten the flex and lower the spin rate to increase the total distance?

I would not expect to get much by tipping the Kali regular and I would not buy that shaft. I purchased a Kali regular as I hit it ok when fitted on a Trackman. When I started hitting it I noticed tendency to hit big hooks. Checked frequency and found it was closer to a soft senior than a regular flex. First I had it tipped 1/2 inch with absolutely no change in frequency. Then I had it tipped another 1 inch (1.5 inch total with butt plug added so it is 45" long still). The frequency went up only 4 cpm so now it is a full fledged senior flex. Do not buy this in regularyou will be disappointed.

    Thanks for the comments Frank.

What shaft did you end up putting in your Driver?

Anyone else want to add to the conversation.

    Cheers!

I tried for quite awhile to get both Titleist and Mitsubishi to give me some info (hard data) on stiffness and frequency of the shafts . Titleist only comment was that I should not rely on data but get fit by a certified fitter. This made no sense as that is how I ended up with the problem to begin with. Mitsubishi just said it was dependent on the head and I should contact the club manufacturer. Since neither was helpful and I did not want to buy and guess at shafts thru Titleist I took my old 907 Driver with a Diamana Red ( not the one made for Titleist) had the shaft pulled and put in the 910 by a local fitter. The shaft is 46" long and I left it at that length so if I had to tip trim I could. Clamped at 45" standard length it checks out at 248 CPM which is right between a regular (244 CPM) and stiff (254 CPM). I like the launch and feel and I picked up an extra 18 yards carry on a Trackman with the medium trajectory and 30 degree descent angle I like for good role out. It is a premium shaft but well worth the money. The Diamana Iliama is the latest version (be careful as there is a made for Titleist version with significantly different torque specs. I suspect it would be a good fit for you in a stiff flex. Without data who really knows.

Thanks again Frank excellent info, I appreciate it.

I went and tested the D2 and D3 again on a trackman and made a decision.

    I ordered a D3 10.5 with a Fujikura F3 stiff @ 44.5"

This combo was the best shaft for me and I'm glad I tested again before pulling the trigger the first time.

I did like the Liama stiff but the Fuji F3 produced better #'s across the board felt better as well.  Win / Win

    Cheers,

    Bryan

    Bryan,

All shaft Titleist uses are tipped 1/2". You can order the F1 and ask it not be tipped.

Tipping a Kaili could work, did you try the Ahina? It's a little stiffer and in a reg flex might do the job for you.

    I hope this helps,

    Kevin

  7. Others will read this and learn so :

What is the effect on an Untipped shaft (lets say stiff flex untipped)?

I assume you just cut from the butt, ie if raw length is 46" and the golfer wants an untipped shaft you cut one inch from the butt. conversely you would normally cut 1/2 inch from the tip and 1/2 inch from the but for said 46inch playing 45"
