how does torque affect accuracy?  particularly in the driver shaft?  right now i am playing a stock titleist s voodoo in a 909D2.  the distance is great but the accuracy isn't.  i'm all over the place pushes, pulls, hooks and slices also throw in there a few nice straight bombs (the club is long) I just wish it were more accurate.  Any advice on torque would be greatly appreciated

From what I understand about torque, it's how much the club head will move right and left as you are bringing the club back to impact.  The faster the swing speed the less torque you want (in general terms).  If you are spraying it you may need either a stiffer shaft or the same flex with less torque.  If you like the adilia shafts try the RIP.

check out www.mygolfperformance.com  RC is here in Austin and does a lot of video work.  Really great guy and he's helped me a ton with my game.

  5. Without sounding rude. Have you checked swing flaws before looking at torque?

Bad workman blames his tools and all that :)

    Hope it works out

Oh I know my swing needs help !  But I was just wondering if a shaft change would help any?  I wish I could find a good instructor!

chris, if you think torque is causing you to lose shots left and right, try setting your hands a little lower on the grip, about a half inch and than hit some shots. you might feel a little less swing weight( head weight of club) and see if your shots get  straighter. if this works, take your club and have it tipped a half inch ( it will shorten your club) than the club maker can add a half inch to the butt end of the club and you'll be set.

I had the same questions, I was blaming torque, but it was a small part of the problem.  The first part was my getting a bit quick, when I was carefull enough to complete the turn and delay my release I could find the fairway, but the tempo and timing had to be perfect, or the Diaman Blue 65 Stiff would land me in the left side trees, or I would try to prevent it and block it to the right side trees.  The second part of the solution was the shaft.

The stock shafts in the better drivers all have one thing in common, they are a downscaled version of the shaft played on tour.  Take the Diamana Blue shaft for an example, the shaft the manufacturers put in their drivers or woods, is not the same as a Diamana Blue board shaft you would buy, if it were, the price of the club would go up by $100.00 and truthfully, if your clubhead speed is not 110mph or faster (as mine is), you won't likely have issues with the shaft.

Do yourself a favour and try a shaft with a stiffer tip section and a higher bend profile, I had the Aerotech Claymore 48 F5 installed in my 909D2 9.5, I am now in the fairway 85% of the time, I did not lose distance, and I am more confident on the tee.  But again I must think full shoulder turn and delay the release.

If I could change one thing it would be to have purchased them new with this or a similiar shaft.

    Good Luck

Torque can certainly factor into your troubles!  Basically...torque is all about how the shaft "twists" during the swing...specifically downswing through impact.  I believe it's the greatest factor affecting feel perception.  "Out of control" may translate to too much torque.

All things being equal:  take a shaft with zero torque (impossible!) and it's square at impact.  Take a shaft with 3.0 torque and it's 3 degrees open at impact.  Essentially higher torque can lead to a clubface that's more open at impact...again...that's all things being equal.

When you have multiple vectors (putting it nicely on miss directed shots ;) you've got to consider all factors: length, weight, flex, torque...and the swing.  Most players with your issues are "Early Extending" so you may have a problem maintaining posture through impact.

Describe your swing and body type and we might be able to help you...but the best bet is to find a local fitter!
