Sorry for the long winded post... Trying to get some concise opinions...
New again to golf, left 10 years ago and was a single digit... the technology sure has changed a lot in the last 10 years! WOW I am a golf canada member and my handicap is 15 and my typical score is in the 80's.....
Bought all Titleist this year 917 D2 driver, 2 x fairways (917 f2) and 818 H2 (21*)
AP3 irons and 54 & 60 SM7
Am in Canada weather is temperamental here (hot and cold)
I have never been on a launch monitor Here is my predicament My 917 9.5* driver is great honestly it is... when I bought it, I was hitting the ball very high therefore I bought a Tour Green stiff and went with that set it at C3 (down .75 and one notch to the left) to cure leaking balls to the right ... in the summer I could get the ball out there a good ways for sure... even hit a few really long abnormal drives... you never forget those ones! LOL (I am working on my swing and 80's is where I shoot) the fairways and hybrid have stiff shafts in them The 917 came with a Diamana BLUE LTD 60 R shaft....
Was playing golf last week and was awful sprays to the right and couldn't get the distance I had when it was 30+c degrees... I have hit some 250 yard plus drives this year but honestly I have had to swing out of my shoes to get there..... My playing partner educated me on club fitting and said i should be playing Regular.... well I went home and put a spare adapter on the Diamana blue LTD 60 R shaft and played today even in A-1 setting with the standard weight set for draw they were very on line and straight 220 yards carry in the cold... so he was on to something I noticed all my woods (15 & 18*) go right... must be too stiff???? I adjusted the driver to D1 and that was the sweet spot for me... lower and on line!!!
My 818 has the tensei blue stiff 70 which I like that too can go somewhat right... (not too often) So I am going to try Diamana blue 70 regulars in my 917 woods....
My question pertains to my irons.... they have the AMT black S300 shafts (hard to get AP3 in regular) and I honestly thought I was a stiff player.....
The AP3 are strong lofted (I have always played more traditional lofts) and what I mean the 48* I play like my old PW and the 8 would be like my old 7.......
The AMT shafts I like and ive read they are 115G now today I hit a smooth 9 135 yards spot on... I have no tech number on my SS here from 150 I will always pull a 7 and if I need more 6 it is...
Am I playing too stiff of a shaft in my irons? the max I can get with the 48* is 100-110 yards every other club going down is approx 10 yard difference...
My typical miss is left and I find I have high ballflight so much ive started to use the AVX as its lower ballflight... the irons never a problem with slices its always either thin (swing needs work) or pushed to the left.... always a good high ballflight
I am just trying to fully tweak my set of golf clubs I love golf and I am trying to figure out if the iron shafts are too stiff for me.......
Obviously in my driver the shaft change made all the difference in the world and I even hit a slight draw off the tee.... I can get by with my irons but with my woods I have seen off the driver how much a regular flex has helped me.....
