  1. I'm using a 917D2 as my driver with a Matrix Ozik HD6 regular shaft. I'm a senior golfer (73) and would like to know if you have any recommendations for a different shaft. Since there are no fitting locations (that I trust) here in NW florida I would like to try and increase my distance on drives. I'm using a PRO V 1 ball and sometimes a Velocity/NXT...Just would like some recomedations and will not hold person responding for the results ..

    Thanks

Are there any ranges or golf shops that can let you know your back spin, club head/ball speed, and launch angle? While I prefer observing outside, any kind of technical assistance would make for a better recommendation. It's not often Medicare-eligible golfers won't be improved by higher-launching shafts just because club head speed has declined. Since you have a 917 D2, did a fitter work with you on this fitting? If you can find a trial/Titleist Thursday and even try the Diamana LTD 50 or 60 g blue shafts, to see if that gets you in the right direction. You could check to see if there are any Titleist Thursdays in Alabama that would be worth the drive for a free fitting by a Titleist fitter.

I am getting pretty good results in my 917D3 with the Aldila Rogue Max 65R.

I was talking with my Titleist certified fitter yesterday about the possibility of getting a new driver. I current play a 917D2 11.25* Fujikura Pro Speeder 64 Tour Spec S and am hitting it around 230-250, consistently in the fairway. I will be turning "72" on September 10. He has worked with me over the years and I trust him completely. If we cannot get at least 10 additional yards with a new driver, we do make the move. My current swing speed is 93mph, spin around 2200-2500rpm with a Prov1. I asked him what we could do to get ten more yards and he said, to the point, get your swing speed up to 97mph. We are going on trackman a find out to see if my swing speed has decreased or with a little luck increased since my last fitting. I have been working with a swing coach lately and I have been swinging more thru the ball consistently. Have gone back to hitting a power cut off the tee.

That shaft that Dale has is a great shaft, I have the Aldila Black Rogue M*AX 75 S in my 917F 15* and use it sometimes off the tee instead of my driver, when I need to hit a slight draw. It is a strong shaft.

The AVX ball is a distance ball, and I can get a few more yards with it over the Prov1, which is my normal ball. If you have not tried it, might be worth investigating.
