Hi TT family, what is the best grind for bunker shots? I am currently using a 58.08 M grind, but looking for something a little more forgiving. Thanks!

K or D grind probably best overall. K is awesome from bunkers. I played a SM6 58K for a year and loved it. Just got a new SM7 58.12D since the K now comes in 14* bounce. So far, it too has been awesome. But, so much of it depends on your bunker swing characteristics. Hard/thin sand may require less bounce. Fluffy/thick sand, the more the merrier. JMHO.

Hi Phillip. If you love the M grind, but want something with a little more bounce for the bunkers, take a look at the new D grind. It has the same shape and grind, with a touch more bounce. If you want a grind just built for bunkers, the K grind has a nice wide sole, lots of camber and very forgiving. We call it the ultimate bunker club :)

Cathi nailed it, but as with any club, getting fit is the key.. Hard to ask for advice when no one here has seen you swing or know the sand condition you play in.

I love the K grind out of the bunkers. When I got fitted by Bob it opened up my eyes on how the bounce and grind can effect the shot drastically.

I was just fitted for the 56.14 F grind at the National Fitting Center, it was awesome and can't wait to get mine!

It depends a lot on the bunkers on the courses you play.
The fluffier the sand in the bunker the more bounce.

On my home course the bunkers are mostly empty and hard. So I prefer the lower bounce and the M grind so I can open the face when needed.

See what you play the most and fit to that, that way you get the most out of you equipment.
  11. I just got the SM7 58.12D and love it. My miss out of the sand and chip shots had always been a chunk, and I haven't chunked one since I started using the D grind. Made a huge difference. I'm sure the K grind is great out of the bunker too, but I think the D grind is more versatile outside of the sand.

I have an SM6 58 K grind - great for bunker play and a really great all around wedge. I notice the SM7 K grind has 14 degrees of bounce, whereas my SM6 has 12 degrees.
  13. interesting discussion. i have a SM7 TC finish SW 54.10 S, 1 degree weak, making it 55.11. holding off, for the moment, for a LW, TT fitter recommended 60.12D.

my question: seems like several here using a higher loft & different grind for their bunker shots, so curious IF i have "wrong" specs for my SW? previous SW was 56 degrees. my spacing as follows: PW (as part of 718 AP2 set) 46 degrees - MM7 GW 50.12 F - SW as described - LW as described. look forward to comments.
