Hard stepping AP2's

    Hi,  I'm a first timer on the Team Titleist blog but am a great lover of the brand.  I was just fitted for new irons and have a couple of questions please.

    I currently play 710 AP2's with DG300's and was fitted for 712 AP2's (my preferred head) with Project X 5.5 shafts tagged as the best fit.

    I'm not a long hitter (club head speed with a 6 iron approx 88mph for 165-170 yard length).  I just kick the ball up with too high a launch angle.

    Questions;

    Can I order AP2's from Titleist with Project X 5.5 shafts that are hard stepped twice to bring down the ball flight and have a slightly lighter weight to gain a little club head speed?

    If not and only 1 step is possible, what else can I do to bring down the desired ball flight, e.g deloft by a degree or more?

    Also, for my wedges, would I need to go up to a 6.0 flex to keep the correct differential?

    Welcome !! 

     The PX shafts can be hard stepped only one time because they don't have shorter shafts than 36.5".  Hard stepping requires putting a shorter shaft into each head. 

    The shafts will all be the same weight but you can ask for a lighter swingweight which is how heavy or light the club feels as you swing it. 

    As far as launch angle, you can strengthen the loft by 1-2° which will bring down the ball flight, but it will also decrease the bounce so you will want to talk with your fitter about how much to deloft the clubs.. 

    In your wedges, you would stay with the same set up in your full shot wedges as your irons.    Give us a call if you would like to talk it over before you place your order.  1-888-TITLEIST

    Thanks for the reply.  What is the likely result shot wise of the reduced bounce?   I'm more of a sweeper than a digger if that helps.

    Sorry but what shaft would I have in the wedges to keep the set up the same as my irons?  PX 5.5's but not hard stepped?

    What bounce does is keep the leading edge of the club from digging into the ground.  If you are a sweeper and don't manipulate the club head, the reduced bounce should be fine.  If you don't take divots, you may find yourself taking a small divot as the reduced bounce will allow the clubhead to dig in more.  If you are going to hit full shots with the wedge, we would generally match the shaft so the feeling is similar.  Other players will go slightly softer in their touch shot wedges for more feel.  It is personal preference.
