  1. Hello,

My 13 year old son is very happy with his 910 D2 driver with Aldila Rip Alpha regular flex: accurate and great distance. My older son Austin currently uses a Launcher 310 Tour head in 8.5 loft, Speeder stiff shaft. I want to fit him to a 910 D3 driver and would like your opinion about loft and correct shaft. I notice some PGA players use the 910 D2/D3 drivers in 9.5 and 10.5 degree lofts. My son has really high clubhead speed and routinely averages drives of around 300 yards. Very strong athletic kid. Is it best to go 9.5 with a high kick point X shaft to produce lower more accurate drives or use an 8.5 with an X shaft ? It seems as though the trend on tour is to use higher driver lofts and then keep the trajectory down with the right shaft. Also, which shaft available for a D3 is best for accuracy as his distance is not a concern ? Thank you for your time. We will be scheduling a D3 fitting for him at Snoqualmie Ridge Golf Course near Seattle next week with Luke Brosterhous.

    Sincerely,

    Brad,

You are starting to see a lot of players with higher lofts, because of the ways spin is getting lowered and controlled.  For many players, if they can control their spin, adding loft will get them to their optimal ball flight.  It is hard to say about your son, but this is definitely something that Luke will be able to assist with.  He is a great fitter, and if there is any other help you need just let us know.  Hope to hear some great results after you son's fitting!

  3. Cameron,

The fitting with Luke was great. Very interesting to watch the process as Luke dialed in my son to the correct loft, hosel ajustments, and shaft. Austin was around 112 to 114 mph clubhead speed and his old driver/ shaft combo was long, but poor accuracy to say the least ! The very comforting result was that Luke ordered, right from the range, a 910 D3 with a loft of 9.5 degrees with a Rombax 7 X07 extra stiff flex shaft . Looks like Fujikura started to offer that shaft in 2008. Austin's setting will be at C-1 to lower the effective loft to 8.75 degrees at a flatter lie angle to take away the left side of the fairway. Final 5 drives were all straight or with a slight fade, and to our delight it appears he will not lose any distance. This would have made for an awesome commercial for Titleist, and or to promote Luke as he did a fantastic job. Well done!
