  1. I have a 910d3 with the aldila rip alpha x stiff shaft - standard length. now I want to put the same flex rip shafts in my 910fd and hybrid. my step son is a certified club builder/technician and is competent to do the work so I just want to know what the tipping instructions are for the 15 degree fairway and 19 * hybrid builder I already have the raw shafts - just need to know what to tip for the Surest adapters

    John,

We tip our 15* fairway metals with after market shafts 1" (1/2" for a made for Titleist shaft) and 19* we tip 1/2" for all shafts.

I'd imagine that tipping the shaft makes it play a little stiffer.  But trimming from the butt also makes the shaft play a little stiffer.  If I tipped a stiff shaft a half-inch and cut the top of the shaft a half-inch, would the resulting shaft play a little less stiff than if I cut a full inch from the tip?  Further, why would you only tip a half-inch with the 19* club?

And, why do you tip a made-for-Titleist shaft less than an aftermarket shaft?

  4. Hello Cameron,

    Thanks for the reply.

I was just wondering about your comment 'made for Titleist shaft'

I have had 909 heads in the past where the shaft states made for Titleist (Aldila Voodoo) and I checked the specs that confirmed that but I thought I read somewhere that the Aldila Rip is exactly the same as the OEM.

Also just want to confirm that for my 19* 910H you still tip 1/2 inch - I was told by Aldila that it goes straight in (untipped) then trimmed to length.

    Thanks again!

    Hi John

From my understanding & reply from Cameron is that the Aldila RIP is a true after-market shaft, not a "made for" shaft. I'm sure Cameron can confirm this for you.

Furthermore, the Aldila website also gives tipping instructions for each specific shaft.
