    All,

I have always been wondering what people think about getting a wedge fitted to you and what shaft to go in them.  It is not always discussed.

I play 2 wedges now, a 53 and a 58.  They are just standard lie and standard shaft.  All of my other irons are not standard.

I was wondering that since my irons are 2 degrees upright, should my wedges be the same.  Also, what is the opinion of the wedge flex shafts.  I have always wondered since I have Project X shafts if I should do that in my wedges as well.

Just wanted some opinion on this.

    Thanks, Joey

    Joey,

In my opinion your wedges should be set up to the same specs as your irons.   The last thing you want to do is change your set up or swing with your scoring clubs.  Consistency through the set is a must.

As far as the shafts go, I think you'll find that most wedge shafts are one flex unless you specify a particular shaft (ie..Project X).  I myself did some research on wedge shafts when the groove rule changed in 2010.  I ordered the Vokey C-C wedges (56-60) with the Dynamic Gold Spinner to compensate for difference in the grooves.  I was very skeptical, but figured it was worth a try.  Happy to say it was an outstanding decision on my part.  The shafts are very responsive, have great feel, and I found  no perceptible difference in spin.  I won't purchase a wedge without that shaft!

I was in the golf industry for 20 years and played professionally on the mini tours when I was younger.  I hope this information was helpful and I would suggest trying a number of different shafts so you have some hands on experience.  Find what works for you!!!

         Sincerely,

    David

I believe that everyone should be fit for each of their clubs. Woods-putter. The specs aren't always the same.
