I have a Scotty Newport 2 33" that I have been using for little over a year now. I seem to putt better when I lift the heal of the putter off the ground. If I have the putter flat on the ground I seem to push my putts to the left (left handed). Anything 12 ft or less I'm dead on with that setup, but if the putt is over that distance I don't seem to be able to hit it hard enough, and don't let it be a lag putt I can't ever get it close. But if I lay it flat I can get more power on the putt, but not have any accuracy. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd guess that if you have to lift the heel off the ground in order to put a good stroke on it, that the shaft is either too short or the lie angle is too flat.....or a combination of the 2.

If it works for Steve Stricker it can work for you.

Almost in the same boat as you are Larry. For me its toe up that I putt better, been doing it for awhile now. My Scotty Studio Style Newport 2 is 35" length.

I recently had putting lessons with my instructor. And we did work on getting the putter flat on the ground, eye over the ball and gripping down. Honestly, I might keep my old putting style cause it works for me. Though I will give the "proper and correct" technique a chance...

As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I would suggest you practice lag putting from distances over 12 feet. Putt the ball to the hole to within a certain distance from the hole. Do this on flat lies, up hill, down hill, side hill...whatever you need to get you to start to feel the right putting stroke for putting long distances. One last thing you shouldn't forget...make the second putt. It wont help you if you miss the putt after your first putt.
