I've used Dynamic Gold my whole life. X-100, then switched to S-300 about 10 years ago. Tried PX and lighter shafts, hate the feel as I'm so used to DG.
Now as I'm getting older, have some physical issues,  and can't generate club-head speed anymore, about 145 yard 7 irons on a good day, what do I switch to?
Do I go R-300, or S-300 soft stepped? Is there another shaft you might recommend with a similar feel that will give me a little more pop and make me feel younger :-) ? These will go into the new AP2s.
Loving the looks of the line for 2012!!!
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I went from DG S300 to Rifle 6.5, even though these are X flex they don't feel like it. I don't need sensicore to save my elbows.

I won't go back to DG.

You might try 6.0 or 5.5

Thanks Quinton. I just can't get used to the "feel" of the Rifle, even though i know they are great shafts.

My Titleist Rep just made a recommendation for Dynamic Gold XP. I'm not too familiar with them, but doing some research, they look very promising.

Any feedback on the Dynamic Gold XP?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    The trajectory of the XP was to high for me even though it is rated as a mid flight shaft. The DG's are low trajectory, so all things considered if you are looking for a shaft in the tru-temper line up which is a bit lighter easier to load but will maintain a low trajectory the one I might look at is the Dynamic Gold SL R300 or a soft stepped S300. The below is from their web site;

Player Profile – Professionals and low-to-mid handicap amateurs seeking the tour-proven playability of Dynamic Gold with the benefits of a superlite design.

    Clubmaker Highlight:
The balance point of Dynamic Gold SL allows a clubmaker to reshaft a set of Dynamic Gold irons at the same finished length with no change in swingweight!

    • Identical appearance and performance as Dynamic Gold
    • More than 20 grams lighter than Dynamic Gold (106g vs 128g)
    • Increased clubhead speed for added distance
    • Trimmed weight below 100 grams

    Thanks DPavs,

Great thought, and I actually tried those in a set of AP2's. They actually played stiffer than my old DGs. I lost feel because of the combination of being so much lighter and stiffer. I am going to try to find a demo of the SL in R-300, that may be a better fit for me.

    Thanks for the idea!

By the way, needing to try R-300s is a HUGE blow to my ego! :-)

My day is not far off for that! But all things considered you would rather have a lower handicap than a larger ego right? :)

Only briefly during a fitting for some JPX-800's which I recently purchased. Which btw, even if you are going to purchase the Titleist irons or are just thinking about a shaft replacement, chance are you can do a fitting with any of the Mizuno irons and have your swing analyzed and a shaft optimized for you. Their fitting system and shaft options are very good. P.S. Titleist folks, you really need to get on board with somethign similar!

During my fitting I opted to go with the Project X 5.5's. The trajectory of the SL's was fine for me but my results were just better with either the DG S300's or the Project X's. I did not use the SL's too extensively as I had eliminated them favoring instead the DG S300's. The reason for the favoring between the two Tru-Temper shafts was not as much feel or trajectory as it was weight. My shot dispersion was not as good with the lighter weight shafts.

PX 5,5 is something I really should hit as well. I've only hit 6.5 and 6.0 in those...

Thanks again for all the great ideas DPavs!!!

  11. Have you considered graphite shafts?

Thanks for all the help here, along with the personal emails. Very much appreciated!

I am going with the Dynalite Gold XP S-300. They seem to be the perfect fit. Just a hair lighter, and the softer tip gives me a little more "pop." Great combination with my softer tipped UST AxivCore Blacks.

Great service as always from my friends at the wordls best Golf Company!
