  1. I did something dramatic on August 6. After several average rounds putting, I traded my Newport 2 Cameron and Crown putter for a new Phantom X 5.5. It was probably not the equipment, but rather the guy holding it. However, confidence is a hugh factor in putting so I made the jump. 3 weeks later, I can say it was a very good move. I just won my 4th Match play Club Championship at Foxwood, shooting 2 over 72 this afternoon with 27 putts. To be truthful, I thought I could make everything today. I had to give my opponent 10 shots and twice I made birdie just to half the hole. I have not sat down and figured out the length of putts made today, but it will be well north of 100 ft. There were at least 3 in which I needed to knock down 10 ft plus, and there was never any doubt once it left the putter head. Once you have the speed of the greens at a course, it is a great feeling knowing you can make them from anywhere. Thank you Scotty. I never thought I would switch to mallet, but now that I have, there is no going back.

Bob... First of all - Congratulations on your stellar play and great putting !
I have to agree with you that the right putter in your hands gives you the feeling of great confidence standing over the ball. Nothing will build confidence faster than making putts. I also agree with you that once you have the speed of the greens you get a better feeling for rolling the ball into the hole. I know for me, I like faster greens as I find it much easier to get the ball rolling on line and let it get to the hole without having to "hit" the ball. Glad you found the right Scotty for you. There is a model out there for everyone !

    Way to go congratulations.
Mallet putter forces us to have the putter square to the ball and like you said knowing the speed of the greens .
    Scotty is the best.

Man, things like this really inspire me to bite the bullet and go get a fitting. I have a newport 2 as well. I shot an 89 the other day with 44 putts.... putting is killing me.

JKisson... Definitely time to get fit for a putter. You may even find that all you need is a different length shaft on the putter you have :) Worst case - you get a new putter in your hands and lower your handicap !
I recall the days when I used to shoot 80 with 40 putts and after I got my new Scotty GoLo5 my average putts per round are 34 with many rounds down to 30. I still shoot 80 on a regular basis, but that is because I am fighting my swing and missing to many greens lately :). I can just imagine if my putting was still off.
  6. I read some quote about a month ago that said about you have to be willing to accept risk if you are going to achieve success. I was looking at the stats of my game over the last month, and my greens in regulation have gone up, but my putts per round were somewhere around 32-34. I felt it was time for a change. Now, one is a function of the other with respect to I had more birdie opportunities, but I was failing to cash in. Hence, the new Phantom X. Played in a 2 man best ball tournament last weekend, and shot my best scores from the back tees ever. 27 putts 1st day, 28 the second.
