    The Prov1 spins a lot more off the tee than the Prov1x. Look at http://www.titleist.com/golf-ball-fitting/    

    That will give you education on the balls. As the Prov1 spins more, the Prov1x gives you more distance.

    Yes, combo iron sets are the way to go because you have forgiveness in your long irons, and workability in your short irons.

    Best thing to do is hit them side by side.  I can hit a forged player club just as well as a game improvement iron. It is correct about a pro hitting a $20 set of irons better than an average person with a $1000 set of irons.

    It was most likely the Titleist ProV1 since they were black numbers. The Titleist ProV1x has red numbers.
