Just curious how the SM7 Jet Black wedges finish holds up to play????? Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm currently playing SM6 in Tour Chrome but after seeing the SM7 Jet Black I'm strongly considering them!!! I'm visualizing the SM7 Jet Black with black shafts (I know that combo will be awesome when new - LOL)

Any club from any manufacture with a coated finish will wear pretty quickly, especially a wedge where much of the use is in sand. It will be mainly the sole and face. If you know that going in, no reason to shy away.
  4. it wears just like oil can finishes...you will see some wear where you hit the ball...
  5. It does wear and then shows rust spots...no problem really and easy to clean
    They are great clubs!!

When new, the black combo looks absolutely awesome. Wear will occur the first time you hit it and it does show that wear more than other finishes. Some folks love the look but can’t tolerate the deterioted finish. I’m in that group.

They will wear over time, but that's not really a bad thing.

I've never had one rust, but I do keep my clubs clean.

Had my jet black vokeys since around June, and there is a little wear. More the black finish has gone ‘shiny’ where it had been hit a few times.
It’s a raw finish, so have to expect it to wear away eventually

a little shine thru the finish and a couple SW nicks from bunker pebbles showing the softness of the metal, not bad for 9 months practice and play

Is it possible that you could upload a picture? I'm 90% sure I'm going to go with the Black / Black combo (heads and shaft).
  11. It really doesn’t make a difference as long as you keep playing good.

I always have a wet towel when I play. I wipe the club and grooves after I hit a shot. If you leave moisture on it the club will rust faster than normal as to be expected. So far after 2 years my SM6 58° has no sign of rust or a lot of wear and I use it anywhere from 80 yards in, around the green and green side bunkers.

  14. hello! Does anyone know how the jet black or steel gray finish is done? I have some Sm6 chrome and I would like to renew them. Thank you

I was told by the Titleist wedge expert that the SM9 grooves on chrome are actually cut differently from the other finishes to allow for the depth of the actual chrome coating so know that removing the chrome may make your grooves non-conforming... Not that the USGA will have someone on your first tee with a micrometer.

I have the SM9's in Jet Black since I retired my old oil cans... I liked the contrast at address but the wear is similar to the oil can in that they show the wear. Since I've used my 56 and 60 in the bunkers, they show more wear than the 52, however, it's not terrible and I like the worn in look.

Don't get them if you expect them to stay black...

I bought some new old stock SM7's two seasons ago and probably have about 120 rounds on them. I feel like they are holding up very well all things considered. some wear on the face but no rust and just really solid all around.
