    Hey Folks,

Just got a Newport Select 3 with a black matador and am interested in the Pistolero grip.

Is there anyone out there that has made the swap and can give me feedback?

pistolero is better for feel putters I would say. The matador is a little big and i feel like i takes the hands out of the stroke a little more
  3. They are very different grips. I have used both over the years. Currently, I prefer the pistolero. If you feel the matador is too big you may even wish to consider the "Pistolini" which is slightly smaller than the pistolero.

The pistolero and pistolini are both rubber compound compared to the matador which is a tacky soft grip such as what winn makes.

Be mindful of weight of grip also since even though they are all close in weight there will be a difference that could cause you to lose some feel in terms of swing weight. FWIW...

    Good Luck!

I love the smaller Pistolero as it increases the feel in my hands. I make a much better stroke with it.

FYI, this is called the Pistolini Grip
  6. I am a huge Scotty fan and loyalist but have never adapted well to the matador. I have tried the pistolero as well but the handle shape really didn't fit great in my hand either.

My go to is the pistolinni. It is slim, feels great even when worn, and a great feel for the putter.
  7. Great question!

I have used and experimented with both grips for years. Here is my take.

    1. Both grips weigh about the same weight so your swingweight will not be affected much at all between the two. The last thing you want is a lighter or heavier grip that may make your putter feel different.

    2. The matador Black (assuming you are referring to standard version not xl) is a tacky feel like Winn Grips. The Pistolero is firm rubber.

    3. As far as shape, The matador is more rounded/square in feel vs. Pistolero which is a big pistol end toward the top. They feel completely different. The pistolero is better if you prefer to plant the palm of your hand in the grip vs. the matador is better for "feel" where you hold it in fingers and palm both.

    4. Both grips come in a variety of colors so this is a wash

    Good Luck!

    Perfect!!!

    Thanks for this!
  9. I recently put the matador medium size on my putter and like it so far. the tacky grip helps me to keep a light grip, I'm not sure if its helped my putting any but it feels good.

I'm also not wild about the black Matador grip, which is too soft and slippery. How do I go about trying another grip? Like the Pistolero? I agree completely that the new grip must weigh about the same.
  11. As one can read every grip has a different "feel" which is what Scotty is all about. Thus, everyone should consider experimenting with a variety of his grips to determine which is best for your preference. I have noticed that on blades I may prefer one style of grip and on larger mallets I may prefer a different grip....it just all depends...

    Good Luck!
