  1. Hey,

Recreational golfer from the Edmonton area. I struggled for years before cross dominance was figured out, only had one lesson and it was picked up on. I also didn’t start golfing until my late 30’s, so it wasn’t anything that any of us thought about. If anyone else has any experience or tips on it, I’m all ears, I figured it out 4 days ago, so my swing finally has some grace and consistency to it finally! Now to figure out the best putter for it!

I am left handed and right eye dominant. Mostly have been focusing on how this affects my putting. Have not explored in much detail on lining up full swings so would be interested in hearing what you have discovered. I don’t think it matters that much what putter or stroke you use as much as how it affects your set up. Having your dominant (lead) eye over the ball or just behind it is optimal and understanding that a perfectly aligned putt may not look like it is. For example, on a straight putt if I have the putter lined up for the center of the cup, it looks to me like it is aimed at the right edge of the hole. This is just something I need to realize as it is not fixable to my knowledge. I have a fair number of putters with a lot of different styles of alignment aids and it is true with all of them. It is most predominant with aids like what is on a Phantom 7 (top center line and longer back lines framing the ball). Perpendicular lines like those found on an Odyssey Versa style are useful to me.
  3. I’ve learned that my shoulders were being tricked into opening when I would take a last look down range. My alignment and positioning were changing slightly during it and causing my arms to get stuck slightly. Started using triple track balls and an intermediate target, an old divot or something obvious in-front of the ball, around 18 inches out on your line. Hopefully that makes some sense. Long story short my trail eye was cheating and my dominant arm was recalculating and making up for visual errors last second, causing decent contact, but not my true distances and dispersion.
