SWING SPEED MEANS NOTHING UNLESS YOU ARE TRANSFERRING THAT ENERGY TO THE BALL. My driver swing speed was 111 2' from the ball but slowed to under a 100 at the ball. The explanation was i was releasing the club way before impact (fat misses) So swing speed while important only benifits you if your energy transfer #'s are good. One thing that helped me was the fitter selected a heavier shaft that I could feel better. To many golfers including me go with lighter shafts thinking they will swing it faster which may be the case but faster doesnt help you if you dont get it to the ball

Re: 100-103 mph swing and lacking distance!!!

You dont need a launch monitor. Hit in to the wind and have some one watch your shot if it has a very distinctive upward curve its your spin rate is to high. Most likly your doing one of two things jason. Your either not hiting it perfectly center face or your club is not fitted to you. My guess is its the combonation of the two things.

My specs are 117-120 normal swing and if i jump on it i get upwords of 123+

this club is not for everyone but i swing a 910D3 8.5 47 inch shaft 88gram high kick X-stiff

I get an average of 290-305 in Carry.

if i hit a high fade its only about 270.

Any shaft less then 70 grams i get that high back spin problem. I Recomend you get fit for your next driver or atleast your next shaft change

My swing speed is a bit higher (116 for my woods) and 104 for my irons. 5 WORDS: "GET YOURSELF A TOUR STRIKER." I was pretty skeptical at first but using the tour striker makes you adapt your swing to always hitting down on the ball, which compresses it. I have always hit it fairly long (5-iron: 205,9-iron:155). I started using the tour striker and I actually added distance. I am now hitting my 5:iron about 215 and my 9 iron 165. I know it sometimes sounds like a crock of bs or just another infomercial but the tour striker really works. If you don't want to drop a hundred bucks on a training aid, try slowing and lagging the club in your swing to get a feel for what happens. It is harder but once you get the hang of it, you will begin to hit the ball longer throughout your bag. I hope this helps.

Re: 100-103 mph swing and lacking distance!!!

I am sort of in the same ball park. My driver swing speed is around 104 or so consistently but my 6 iron speed is around 88-90. I hit my 7 iron around 165 and fly my driver around 250-255. I wanted and needed extra distance with my driver and I have been working with my swing coach on that now but one suggestion I would make and I have started working on it is to get more flexible. I went to a TPI Certified Fitness Instructor and went through the complete evaluation and they came out with a program developed specifically for me. It is basically a lot of flexibility excercises which are actually pretty fun. I have gone from not getting anywhere near touching my toes to now be able to lay my palms down on the ground.

I have definitely noticed a big increase in flexibility and starting to see an increase in club head speed. I am 46 and other than golf I was pretty lame when it came to working out. The TPI program was very reasonable and fun. I have been doing the program everyday now for a little over 2 weeks and can already see a difference.

Give it a try and I know it will help you out plus make you feel better as well.

Re: 100-103 mph swing and lacking distance!!!

yeah thank for the tips guys. I was playing yesterday with my new 910D3 and on one of my drives I just focused on a smooth slow back swing and transition and I boomed it 306yds. That put a big smile on my face! I could not consistently repeat that, but I am on the right track.

I was fitted for my new 910D3 at Golf headquarters in Chattanooga Tennessee this past Saturday. Let me just tell you that fitting is a very necessary process for more advanced players. I did not believe until I saw it Saturday. At first the Rep started me out with an X-stiff Aldilla RIP stick. I was hooking it low every time, even with a 113-115 Mph swing, 166 mph ball speed (which I did not know that it was that fast. 6 months ago it was 105). anyway we moved to a stiff project X shaft and was still hitting them with a little more hook than was acceptable. Then we moved to the stiff Diamana Whiteboard shaft named Ahina and I started carrying the ball 260. At firtst when I saw the shaft it had pretty little flowers on it, and I was like "uuuhh flowers huh? well I guess if it works Ill go with it" LOL. I could not believe how much a difference a shaft made. Im the type that people can tell me something all day and I wont believe it until I see it. I believe.

The 910D has added 20 yards to my missed drives and 30 to my good drives over the 909D. I HIGHLY recommend the 910D it is farther I promise you. I dont know if it was the better shaft fit form my swing (Voodoo stiff previously)or the new head I just know that it is longer!!!

Re: 100-103 mph swing and lacking distance!!!

Sounds to me that you're getting a little steep, that tied in with coming over the top slightly could point towards something as simple as getting a bit quick from the top. Try and have a little pause at the top of your backswing. nothing too prominant just enough to allow a smooth transition into the downswing. like josh said it's tough after the winter and not being as confident as normal because of not playing as much as the summer can quicken the swing up.

At first, I wasn't hitting the ball as well as I usually do. But, after about 20 balls or so, I started seeing the ball fly lower and further. My 7 iron was landing a little before the 165 sign. I figure that this is more like it. I think that is was just a long winter and I don't know much about instruction(I only took lessons when I was 12-13), so recalling why something is going wrong doesn't come easy for me. Fortunately, I had a good swing ingrained when I was young, its just the little things that escape my attention sometimes. Thanks for your help. Maybe I just rushed it, I have only been playing for a week since the end of October.

Re: 100-103 mph swing and lacking distance!!!

By no means am I an expert but to me if your having a high launch angle on everything and some times hit fat shots. My bet would be one of two things 1) Ball placement to far forward in your stance, and 2) your flipping(scooping) at the ball breaking the wrists instead of hitting down on the ball which should deloft your clubs. Drills and tools would be the impact bag, and keeping the hands in front of the club head. Get out to the driving range and just hit some half shots, halfway back and follow through. Watch the ball flight its probably still high. Then while at address *** your wrist and then rotate to your half way position, once in that position while keeping those wrists cocked pump down 2 times to your impact position, and on the 3rd time follow through to impact and notice your ball flight, it should be lower. My bet is more on the scooping and breaking of the wrist.

Good Luck I hope find the problem
