Hello everyone,
With all of the bounce discussion going around lately, I thought this would be a nice video post to address a simplistic way to utilize the bounce of your wedge, regardless of the grind, loft or bounce angle. It sounds like you have a lot going on with the wedges! I would try to simply. Take your most lofted (58) and learn how to launch the ball consistently. Trying to establish a proper dynamic loft (around 43 degrees for you) would be a huge help to creating spin performance at any distance around the greens. Only after you can deliver the same dynamic loft can you begin to work on "feel/speed concepts" that govern distance control. It is safe to say, without miss-hitting the ball, it is unlikely you can launch the fairway wedge shots too low. Lots of shaft lean at impact and a shallow attack angle are key components to maximizing ball control with your wedges. Lastly, I would not advise "40 - 50 yard shots I usually open my 54 degree, choke down to the bottom of the grip and swing with a full stroke effort which flops it" because it is a flawed approach that even the best don't attempt. Flops are for inside 20 yards. Learn how to spin the ball because it is your only weapon from 20-70 yards...

Good luck,

From where you are chipping, what degree wedge are you using? I would be using my 46 degree or 50 degree wedges.

My most difficult pitching shots are from 80 yards (58 degree) up to about 20 yards (a lot of the time it good be any of my 4 wedges 46, 50, 54 or 58 with varying degrees of success. I vary my back swing length for each club to allow for various distances, but on the 40 - 50 yard shots I usually open my 54 degree, choke down to the bottom of the grip and swing with a full stroke effort which flops it....sometimes close and sometimes not so much.

Do you have a practice ideas for these distances?

Keep up the great instruction videos.

RE: Quick Fix- Using the bounce

Goldpanner,

I appreciate your comments. Yes, maybe the easiest fix and most overlooked method of using the bounce! Glad you enjoyed.
