That's normal wear and tear... but he must've been practicing a lot with your clubs because you don't get that after one round of golf.

I think the face wear is due to the type of ball that was being used at the time of the ball strike. Hard ball as apposed to a softer ball.

those marks are a badge of honor. Clubs were meant to be used and used and used some more. The more use, the better the character sets in. The only way to keep the finish is to hang them up on your wall and just stare at them. Believe me, I've done that! But look at tour players. They character marks bring out the true beauty of Titleist clubs. Now go use them! Enjoy!

I agree with Jay. You'd be surprised how sand can scratch up your clubs, hence why I take a spray bottle to clean them up after most shots.

lol yeh true I guess it's natural.. except his ball striking isn't a battle scar I want on my clubs!

If the marks were in a nice centre spot I'd be happier but looks like he's been chopping around with them

That's just what happens with forged clubs.. does not effect them in any way. My old irons literally had a golf ball imprint in the middle of every club!

Looks like range ball marks... I hate hitting range balls unless it's at a nice course with good range balls. Early morning range session tend to be accompanied by dew on the ground holding sand to the range balls

After a month, if you're hitting any amount of range balls or playing often, you will get these scuffs. It's just friction from striking the ball multiple times. Don't worry about them, you're all good!

Yeah if I had have made the marks it wouldn't hurt so much - however I only play at parkland courses/driving ranges with mats hence the face that the face was amazing before

Would anything like that brasso fabric stuff help lessen the damage? I rock hesdcovers on the irons at all times anyway so at least the glorious shiny back will always be the same

It was bound to happen sooner or later, but would have been less painful if you were the one to do it. Letting him hit a ball or two is one thing, but lending them out for a full round... As Barry B said, you are one trusting guy!!.

It is possible it's a brass brush or something, but more likely that it's hitting alot of range balls. Most grass ranges have a lot of sand/seed mixture in the ground so it grows back quickly.

Most brush strokes would be side to side, at least that's how most people would do it... I think.

Hi ANarey! I love the clubs! My clubs sometimes look like that after an extended period of use. I would suggest that you wash them with soapy water and a good nylon bristle brush and give them a good scrub. It should clean up a fair bit -- unless of course that it is actual scratches in the surface of the club face.

Give it a try and see what happens. They are solid steel clubs so no worries about water washing like you would with AP1 or AP2 clubs.

Mine look the same way and I do not use a brush at all to clean them. This is just wear from ball striking.

That is pretty much what I would expect them to look like after a bit of use. Mine were like that after the first few range sessions.

There was probably a bit of sand in the turf at the practice tee.

Nothing to worry about or really anything you can do about it. It won't change how they play.

I think you're stuck with the marks. You can't buff the out without taking too much material off. I hope your Pro compensates you, but then again, golf clubs are designed to get banged up!

I have similar markings on my AP1s - normal usage. You might mention to the pro that his striking pattern shouldn't be all over the face. ;-)
In any event, he is compressing the ball well. You did loan them to use and this looks like normal wear.

Looks like someone has been over zealous with the brass brush head when cleaning them. Not sure what you can do about getting the finish back other than try to polish them up.

I don't know exactly what it may have been, ANarey, but if I had to guess, he was probably hitting shots without cleaning the face first. Basically, hit would hit a shot, not clean the face afterwards, then hit another shot. This is my guess because the crud that gets in between the ball and face can scratch it up a bit. But, again, just speculation. I love my MB's, and can see why you feel that way, hence my use of iron covers, lol. Little trick I picked up from the older crowd.

First...you are one trusting guy! Looks like wear marks from hitting balls on the range (cause they are usually scuffed up and have grit embedded). Could also be from not cleaning the ball & club during the round which can cause the same wear marks, especially if you live in a area with sandy soil.

That's just what happens when you use them. If you look at Tiger's old irons, the circles on the middle of the club face are from a million of those little marks from hitting the ball.
