Titleist AP1/2s vs cally Apex/Apex Pro

I play the 716 ap2's 5-pw & 716 ap1 4iron, I'm guessing cost may play a role as to why the ap1's are cast vs forged?.

Thanks for all of the comments. I have not tried the 716 CBs. I was under the impression they were less forgiving than the AP2s, although with a higher launch. I currently carry 4 & 5 (sometimes 6) AP1 irons and I think of them almost as hybrids. They launch, long and high, but there is minimal feel with the cast heads.

I will demo the CBs.

Since you like the AP2, why not try the 716 CB for your longer irons. Have you tried the a set of 716 CB? They're really sweet.

gary, my take is that it's a market issue - with the game improvement irons like the ap1's, part of the goal is to hit the irons longer for those of us who are distance challenged, and the easiest way to do that is to strengthen the lofts. i, too kind of wish they didn't do this because i certainly would benefit from a mixed set with consistent lofts. btw, the apex cf16's are like the ap1's in that they're stronger lofts than the pro 16's.

Hi Gary, ... that's an interesting observation. I personally am still playing my 714 AP2's and I do love them. Yet, I am looking at upgrading to a new set and have been considering a mixed set of the 716 MB's and the 716 T-MB's. It would be a similar situation as yours -- forged for the MB's and mixed material cast on the T-MB's.

I had some initial reservations about mixing with forged/non forged at the outset but after a long fitting session with the Titleist fitter, I arrived at the conclusion that this would be optimal.

I really liked the T-MB set up. My long irons are not really my scoring clubs so I am not overly bothered by the cast construction. Nonetheless the feel was still very good on them and I liked how the ball came off of the face of the club!

I think at the end of the day, it all comes down to the personal preference of the player/golfer. And, by the way, I do have some hybrids in the bag as well!
