  1. I currently have 13 clubs in the bag and I'm interested in adding a 14th club but I'm not sure what to go with so I maybe you guys can find a gap in all my clubs and recommend what club to get. I currently have: Driver - 9.5* 3 wood - 15* 3 Hybrid - 21* 4-PW Titleist AP2 714 SM5's 52* & 58* Putter

Any suggestions for the 14th club, I really can't think of anything except maybe something between the 3 wood and 3 hybrid. I appreciate the feedback, Thanks!

Honestly, it depends if you have a distance gap anywhere. I would get numbers then you can see if you have a gap in your set and what club would best round out your bag.

I agree with Darron K Sean. I too have the 714AP2s and know the PW has a standard loft of 46°. My recommendations would be to have your 52° Gap wedge bent to 50°, add the appropriate grind that fits for swing profile in a 54° SW, and you should be set! From 6i through lob wedge (assuming you didn't bend them or they adjusted with play, have your lofts checked annually) you will consistently have 4° separation. And most importantly your putting another short game scoring weapon in play, a must!! Nice bag setup already, a 54 and having the 52 bent to 50 should suit you well.

I echo what Darron K says, find the distance gap. No one ever said you can't just play with 13 clubs. I've played with several golfers that carry clubs that they don't like or have no confidence in; these clubs should either be replaced or taken out of the bag because they're just adding weight.

18* H or 55* SW are the largest degree gaps where you can fit another club; however, it depends what your goal is (more length, or more accuracy within 100 yards).

If you're happy with your wedge setup I'd be going for a 4/5i rescue, something to help from the thick stuff, more of an all round utility club

I'm always a believer in your scoring clubs i.e. 150 yards and in, so you might think of getting 2 clubs and dropping 1. If you drop your 58* and get a 56* and 60* you would have 14. Again it is your preference on your short game but many of your shots that truly count are with wedges in my opinion. Just an idea though! Hope it helps!
  8. I have a similar set up. My biggest gap was between the 3 wood and 3 hybrid. Sometimes a 3 hybrid just was not enough and the 3 wood was just too much. I plugged a 17 degree hybrid in between and have been more than pleased.

I am thinking about adding a 2 or 3 TMB iron to fill that gap in my bag. I think the ball flight characteristics are different enough from a 3 Wood and 3 Hybrid to be useful.

I only use 13 and all my gaps are covered, you may not need a 14th club. I carry my bag, so having one less club is better.

    Sean,

I have a similar setup. The only difference is our wedges. I have the SM5 52, 56 and 60 degree wedges in my bag. Scoring is won and lost with the short game. So the more options you have the better chance you have of going lower. A few more up and downs around the green or sticking that approach shot into birdie range a few times can bring the handicap from an 8 to a 6 ya know! I would figure out a good gap between the two wedges you already have and go with that(Maybe a 52,55,58).

If you add a club, be it in the short clubs since that's where we mostly play from.

I would suggest a wedge setup like this:
    AP2 PW - 46*
    GW - 50*
    SW - 54*
    LW - 60*

This would allow you to have more full, 3/4 shots with your wedges. These are the scoring clubs. make most of them

Assuming you are satisfied with your current clubs and simply want to add a club, my suggestion would be a 19 degree fairway wood. This would close the gap between your 3 wood and hybrid.

Have to go with everyone on the distances you are hitting your current set up. I have 14 in my bag and carry a 716ap1 PW, W, sm6 50.10, and 56.14 wedge, but very seldom use the 50.10 wedge. Some clubs you just do not use very often. The course I play, I play from the senior tees (am 70 years old) and probably only hit 75% of the clubs in my bag on a consistent basis and with the strong 917f that I got recently, I could probably leave my driver in the car. It is all about knowing your distances and comfort level.
