Many golfers think that a hybrid should primarily be used to 'get out of trouble'.  We recently conducted a poll on Twitter and the results are included below.

What do you think of the results?
When do you typically reach for your hybrid?

Hi Mitch, ...interesting question and feedback on the twitter poll. I think the poll results indicate that most golfers use the hybrid for more reasons than a recovery shot, showing its true "flexibility" as a club.

I use my hybrid as a replacement for the 3-iron. If the shot calls for that type of yardage, etc. then I don't hesitate to pull it out of the bag.

Of course there are times when I do use the hybrid in situations where I decide not to go for a green when hitting from the rough or similar condition is just not worth it from a "risk - reward" perspective.

I use them for all the scenarios in the poll listed above. They are extremely versatile IMHO.

typically I use it for long par 3's and, to attack par 5s and for a par 4 tee shot that I need to be in a specific spot and club in.
So I tend to fit the average profile I think.

i think i voted in this. my answer was long par 3 shots.
Lately i have been hitting my driver better (i'm a 19 handicap) and have not had to use my 3 wood as much. Instead i have been hitting my 4 hybrid to get that 180 yards instead of being 200 yards out

I carry two hybrids. A 17* and a 21* They replace my 3 and 4 irons. I will use them pretty much anytime I am need yardage from 200 - 230. Someday's they stay in the bag due to lack of cooperation ;)

I'm also in the camp that I use my hybrid for all the scenarios listed. My hybrid fills the gap between my 3W and 4 iron, so I'm looking for a specific yardage and more confidence than a 2 or 3 iron.

I'm not surprised by the results. I think the perception of hybrids used to be as a "rescue" club (even named that in some cases) where now they are much more versatile.
  8. I use mine (only carry one) in all the situations listed above. For me it's a very versatile club and I rely on it quite a bit.

Interesting poll. I cary two hybrids an 18 degree and a 23 degree and use them for all of the above reasons. I also use my 18 degree for putting from off of the green a la Todd Hamilton in the British Open a very useful shot.

I just got my 816 H1 recently, and the plan is to use it to replace my 3 iron. Like many of the members who have already responded, my intention is to use it for all the reasons noted in the poll. Primarily my 3 iron has been my go-to club for shorter par fours off the tee, and for those 200 - 220 yd shots into greens. I needed a lot of good roll out for the extra 20 yds :) The Hybrid is in the bag to help me to gain more consistency on those shots.
I do have to be honest though, unlike Scott, I have never used a hybrid or a fairway wood for off the green putts. Something I have never practiced and would be afraid of the ball skipping all the way across the green on me. Perhaps I will have to try that on the practice green some day.

Yeah I'd have to agree with Wendy for sure... versatility for me is key! Use it whenever I possibly can! Although unfortunately I can't say that I'm currently using a Titleist hybrid... perhaps somebody could persuade me into one?

Such a versatile club that I need to use more and check my ego at the door sometimes. With a nice easy swing, that club goes where I want it to. I would have to say I use it more for recovery shots if I needed to place a vote but all of them would fall under the category for a hybrid!

Like many of the folks above I use my hybrids for all the reasons in the survey including chips/putts from just off the green. As Tom E says though I need to relax and take an "easy" swing - no being a mad man - to get them to work properly.

I have the new 816H and I use it for everything listed. It replaced my 3 iron and its good for 225 give or take.
  15. I carry a 18 degree hybrid , and the uses for it are endless , tight or shorter par 4 , long par 3s , launching it from 250 on par 5s in 2 , low 180 year cuts and draws from the woods etc. I've even been using it for bump and runs lately since its been so dry and firm here in Windsor.
  16. Just out of curiosity , I know it's early but is this a new product year for the pro V ? Kinda excited to do the trials of the prototype like 2 years ago,
